Optical toy for moving ‘white shadow’ projections. This children’s lantern uses what is probably the earliest form of projection, namely the white shadow technique we find in Giovanni da Fontana’s lantern which he used to project demonic shapes as early as 1420. The technique of shadow projection, both white and black, is much older.
