In response to conceptual art, Peter Rogiers creates figurative sculptures in which form and choice of material are given primacy. Degas Piece refers to the ballerinas of French artist Edgar Degas. By constructing the work from polyester and animal hide, Rogiers highlights the figure’s dynamism and fluidity, while also introducing an element of absurdity to this iconic image.
